Dr. Daniel Matt

The preeminent teacher of the Zohar and expert on Jewish mysticism, will be with us for an extraordinary Shabbat of learning. Daniel Matt is a scholar of Kabbalah. He has been featured in Time and Newsweek and on National Public Radio. His books include The Essential Kabbalah (translated into eight languages) and God and the Big Bang. Last year, his biography of Elijah the Prophet (Becoming Elijah: Prophet of Transformation) was published by Yale University Press in their series Jewish Lives. Recently, Becoming Elijah was awarded the inaugural Rabbi Jonathan Sacks Book Prize, established by Yeshiva University.

Join us for a fascinating discussion and presentation on Shekhina, the Zohar and Torah, and Finding God in the Material World. 

Dr. Matt will be speaking three times throughout the weekend — Friday evening after dinner, during services Shabbat morning, and after an enhanced dairy Kiddush on Shabbat afternoon:

  • Friday evening: Brief presentation on Shekhinah before L’kha Dodi
  • Friday Night: Presentation on Shekhina
  • Dr. Matt will deliver the sermon on Shabbat morning on how the Zohar approaches Torah.
  • Shabbat Afternoon: Finding God in the Material World

SHABBAT DINNER BY RESERVATION

(Dessert open to all)

Dinner Friday evening, Friday, March 24, following services, by reservation. 

Cost is $30 for ages 11 and up, $15 for children ages 3 – 10, free for toddlers age 2 and under.

Reservations cut-off date is Monday, March 20 at 5:00PM – no exceptions!

Childcare is available during the evening session.

Dessert will be open to all after the presentation.

Menu: fish, pasta & salad, fish fingers for children. Please indicate gluten free when making your reservations. (Gluten free pizza is available on special order to replace the pasta if needed.)

6:00 – Kabbalat Shabbat in Ben Zion Bokser Sanctuary

7:15 – Dinner in the Heller Ballroom (By RSVP only)

8:15 – Dessert in Heller Ballroom (Open to all, no charge)

8:30- First presentation in Heller Ballroom (Zoom is not available for this session)

Shabbat, March 25:

9:00 – Shabbat morning services & second presentation in Sanctuary (Zoom)

12:00 – Kiddush luncheon in Heller Ballroom (Open to all, no charge)

1:00 – Mincha and third presentation in Sanctuary (Zoom)
